Aim |
Grants wishes to
children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich their life with
hope, strength, and joy. |
Who is Eligible |
Any child under
the age of 18 in Hong Kong* with a serious illness may be eligible
for a wish. Wish children must have written approval from their doctor. |
Wish-granting Process |
Once
an application is received, two volunteers will visit the child to
understand his/her
wish. At the same time, Prof Rosie Young, Chairman of Make-A-Wish
Foundation of Hong Kong, together with other board members, will
study and approve
each case carefully. |
Wish Comes True |
Upon the approval
from the board of directors, volunteers will immediately organise all
the necessary arrangements for the wish. |
Importance of Volunteers |
Volunteers will
assist the children to ascertain their own wish and plan the logistics
of the wish and make it a special day for all concerned.
For instance, Kar-yan filled in her application with a wish to go for an overseas trip. After her interview with the volunteers, they found out that Kar-yan in fact wanted a large puzzle instead. Without volunteers' assistance, children like Kar-yan may not be able to identify their own wishes. |
Source of Funding |
Apart
from one or two annual fund-raising activities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation
of
Hong Kong finances its work through individual contributions and
corporate donations. |
Administration Cost |
The
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Hong Kong finances its work mainly through
individual
contributions and corporate donations. The Board of directors consists
of all volunteers. The foundation only employs two full time staff
who are supported by a group of volunteers working in teams to minimize
administration costs. |
